The Conception
Around 15 company representatives came together to discuss Nepal’s software and IT industry. They identified that the industry’s growth was impeded due to common challenges such as limited exposure in the global arena, significant skill gaps, and regulatory restrictions. It led to the realization that solving the challenges required a unified effort to uplift the software and IT industry in Nepal.

The Decision
Under the facilitation of USAID Trade and Competitiveness, industry leaders engaged in a constructive dialogue regarding the relevance and necessity of forming an association. After careful consideration and analysis, it was unanimously decided that forming an association was vital to revitalize the stagnant industry.

The Beginning of Process
The industry leaders met to formalize the process of establishing an association. They formed an interim committee, who were entrusted with the responsibility to conduct research and submit a proposal.

Coming Together
27 organizations participated to form an ad hoc board, with 16 company representatives expressing their candidacy. After a democratic process, 9 board members were elected, from which the President, Vice-President, General Secretary and Treasurer were appointed.

Establishing Secretariat
The board established NAS-IT’s Secretariat and hired its first secretary, who was responsible for communication and administrative tasks.
March 13, 2023
On Our Own
NAS-IT was registered at the OCR as a not-for-profit distribution company. 34 companies unified to form the first ever association in Nepal dedicated towards the growth and development of the Nepalese software and IT services industry.

1st AGM and Election
General members deliberated on the organization’s current activities and future objectives followed by the election where 9 board members were unanimously elected for a 3-year term, including the appointment of the President, Vice-President, General Secretary, and Treasurer.
